Hearing “unexplained infertility” can feel strange.
Because it sounds like:
“We don’t know what’s wrong.”
And naturally, that leads to confusion.
If nothing is wrong…
then why isn’t pregnancy happening?
Most people expect a clear cause.
Something to point to.
Something to fix.
But “unexplained” doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
It means that with current tests,
no clear issue is showing up.
Basic things may look normal:
- ovulation
- sperm count
- fallopian tubes
Everything seems in place.
But pregnancy is not just one step.
It’s a series of small processes that need to align.
So what could be missing?
There are parts of fertility that are still hard to measure.
Things like:
- how egg and sperm interact
- how the embryo develops early on
- how implantation happens
Then does IVF solve unexplained infertility?
It can help bypass some steps
and increase the chances of fertilization.
But even with IVF,
the “unexplained” part doesn’t fully disappear.
Because not everything can be seen or tested yet.
That’s why this label exists.
Not because nothing is wrong —
but because the reason isn’t clearly visible.
