What is Two-Week Wait (2WW)

What it means

The two-week wait, often called 2WW, is the period of time between embryo transfer and the pregnancy test. During this phase, the embryo may be trying to implant, but there is no clear way to confirm what is happening yet.

When it’s used

It starts right after embryo transfer and lasts until the beta hCG blood test. This is usually around 9 to 14 days, depending on the clinic.

Why people get confused

Some people expect to feel signs if implantation is happening. But most of the time, there are no clear symptoms. It can be hard to tell what is normal because the body is also affected by medication.

Think of it this way

It’s a waiting phase where something important may be happening, but it cannot be seen or confirmed yet.

What to expect

This period often feels long and uncertain. People may look for signs or test early, but results can still be unclear. The most reliable answer usually comes only at the end of this phase with the blood test.
