A lot of people assume IVF solves the sperm side.
Because once you reach IVF,
it feels like everything is handled in the lab.
Especially with ICSI.
So the thinking becomes:
“As long as there’s one sperm, it should be enough.”
But sperm quality still plays a role.
Even if fertilisation happens.
Because sperm doesn’t just deliver DNA.
It also affects how the embryo develops afterward.
So what can happen?
Fertilisation may occur.
But embryo development may not continue as expected.
Or the embryo may not reach later stages.
This is where confusion comes in.
Because the early step looks successful.
But the later outcome doesn’t match.
Then why isn’t this more obvious?
Because sperm issues are not always visible in basic tests.
Some aspects only show up
through how embryos behave during development.
So IVF can help overcome certain barriers.
But it doesn’t remove the influence of sperm completely.
That’s why sperm quality still matters.
Not just for fertilisation
but for what happens after.
