We Thought We Were Past the Hard Part

By the time it worked, we thought we had already gone through the hardest part.

It didn’t happen quickly for us. There were years of trying, doctor visits, and cycles that didn’t go anywhere. So when IVF finally worked, it felt like something had shifted.

The pregnancy was smooth in the beginning.

Each check-up felt normal. Nothing stood out. We followed the routine, went for appointments, and slowly started to believe that maybe this time, things would be different.

Weeks passed.

At some point, it stopped feeling fragile. Not completely safe, but… steadier than before.

Until it wasn’t.

Around 18 weeks, we found out the baby’s heart had stopped.

There wasn’t a clear explanation given to us. No warning that we could hold on to after.

Everything just… stopped there.

It’s hard to describe what that moment felt like. We had already moved past the early stages. We thought we were no longer at the beginning of something uncertain.

But we were wrong.

After that, it didn’t feel like we were starting over.

It felt like we had fallen from somewhere we thought we had already reached.
